Is Your Dog a Canine Hero?
The annual search for our national canine heroes is well underway but it’s not too late to send in your nomination. The deadline for receiving entries is just three weeks away. Canine Heroes is open to any dog in New Zealand that has behaved in an outstanding way during the past year.
Last year the NZ Kennel Club with the support of its sponsor Purina PRO PLAN successfully launched Canine Heroes to recognise and applaud the enormous contribution that dogs make to the social well being, pleasure and security of our community.
Kennel Club President, Lesley Chalmers said that the stories from 2004 clearly illustrated the positive impact that so many dogs have on our lives. Each of the three 2004 winners were exceptional dogs and it’s exciting to create the opportunity once again for such heart warming heroic canine stories to emerge.
The annual awards are presented to exceptional dogs in three categories:
Life Saving Dog of the Year – open to any dog that has performed a single act that prevents the loss of human life in a civilian situation
Service Dog of the Year – open to any dog that by a single act or over a period of time displays exemplary service to an individual owner, organization or government department
Pet of the Year - open to any dog in private ownership that displays in an exceptional way, those factors that make pleasure and joys of owning a dog such a beneficial practice. To nominate your dog visit the NZ Kennel Club website www.nzkc.org.nz or phone the NZKC office (04) 2374489
Deadline for Nominations is 8 August 2005
The Awards will be presented during the 2005 NZKC PRO PLAN National Dog Show in Christchurch at the end of September.
