Shave-n-Paint Special For Cancer Society at Wellington City Council
This Thursday 14 July the BodyFX team will be in the foyer of Wellington City Council to have a Shave-n-Paint Special, covered by TVNZ breakfast show. From 7am till 10 am 16 people from the city council are lined up to be shaved and painted. They have been extremely busy raising as much money as possible for their head design, which varies between LOTR themes and rugby balls.
Amongst the participants Councillor Ray Ahipene-Mercer is happy to lend his head for the good cause. “All money raised will go directly to Cancer Society Wellington’, says Nicole, the instigator of the project.
The BodyFX team has found publisher “First Edition” in Maungaraki enthusiast to have the book published in November. So far the BodyFX team has painted 34 heads and they still need a lot more. All people that want to lend their heads to the book have to be completely bald. If needed the BodyFX team, consisting of 4 artists, is happy to use clippers and razor.
This Thursday they get hairdressers from SiSalon to assist with the shaving “People can choose one of our creative designs or bring their own one” says Yo* who personally designed a lot of looks, “it could be a funny design, a logo or something beautiful, whatever they want”
“The next Shave-n-Paint day is at the new Wellington Arts Centre on Saturday” says Nicole” so just give a call if you want to join the baldheads…
” If you have more than 5 heads to offer the BodyFX team will bring all their gear to your office or workplace and make it into a real fun fundraising experience.
How it started:
With the “Relay for Life” in March 2005 BodyFX was invited to participate in a fantastic fundraising project from “Datamail”. 13 colleques from the Petone office gathered in Midland Park, Wellington, to have their head shaved and painted in an interesting design. BodyFX artists Nicole Heydenrijk and Yo* Bartram, loved the opportunity.
“It’s not often that you can paint a lot of bald heads in one go “says Nicole” and it is for a very good cause also” Because they had such great response on their work they decide not to leave it to that one time, but to collect a book full of baldheads, to be published and sold as a fundraiser.
After talking to Katherine Monks of the Cancer Society Wellington they decided to collect 75 Baldheads to fit in with the 75e anniversary of the Wellington division.
