Two of Hans Christian Andersen’s much-loved children’s stories come to life on stage in HanS Up! during the July school holidays.
Tim Bray Productions presents HanS Up! at The PumpHouse Theatre, Takapuna from 12-23 July.
HanS Up! features two of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved stories for children – The Ugly Duckling and The Emperor’s New Clothes.
HanS Up is New Zealand’s official contribution to HCA 2005 – the global festival celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of one of the world’s favourite storytellers, Hans Christian Andersen of Denmark.
The Ugly Duckling and The Emperor’s New Clothes are being adapted for this stage production by Tim Bray with original music and lyrics by Christine White.
Tim Bray has brought together three talented Auckland actors to take on the roles in the two stories – Rachael Dyson-McGregor (Ugly Duckling and Prime Minister in The Emperor’s New Clothes), Denise Snoad (various roles including Phantasmagoria Swizz in The Emperor’s New Clothes) and Edward Newborn (roles including The Emperor).
“I’ve always loved the stories of Hans Christian Andersen and it is wonderful to be part of a global festival to celebrate a storyteller who has had such an impact on children all over the world,” says Tim.
As part of the season of HanS Up!, two special performances will include New Zealand Sign Language interpreters, so that deaf and hearing-impaired children and their families can also enjoy the magic of live theatre.
HanS Up! is the first in a series of professional children’s theatre productions presented by Tim Bray Productions in 2005 and follows the successful 2004 season of children’s theatre productions which included The Owl and the Pussy-Cat, Mahy Magic and The Santa Claus Show.
In the September 2005 school holidays Tim Bray Productions will present an outdoor production of The Wind In The Willows and in December, The Santa Claus Show will return to The PumpHouse stage.
HanS Up! is at The PumpHouse Theatre, Killarney Park, Takapuna, Auckland from 13-25 July at 10.30am and 12.30pm with a Gala Opening on Tuesday 12 July at 6.00pm. No show on Sunday 17 July. Tickets $16.90 each, family of four $62; gala tickets $19.90. A booking fee may apply. To book, phone (09) 489-8360 or online at www.tix.co.nz.
