A few 'set-pieces' * rugby memorabilia on show at the National Library
Lions and All Black rugby fans visiting Wellington this month will be able to sustain their tour fever with a visit to
the National Library's main foyer, where a small sample of rugby memorabilia from the Turnbull Library's collections is
on display until 3 July.
Especially fascinating is an EMI recording made during the Lions tour of 1977 of popular songs, performed by the British
team during a singalong at the Waitangi Hotel in the Bay of Islands. Visitors will be able to experience this unique
event via a listening post.
Souvenir programmes from British tours dating from 1905, an itinerary and scorecard from the British 1930 tour, and a
collection of 1928 New Zealand footballer cigarette cards are among the items included in the display.
Many rugby fans will also enjoy the current National Library Gallery exhibition First Dance * a nostalgic showcase of
New Zealand dancehall stories, clothes, music and memorabilia.
The National Library foyer and gallery is open from 9am to 5 pm weekdays, Saturday 9 am to 4.30 pm and Sunday 1 pm to
4.30.
