Hamish Carter to Escape From Alcatraz
Hamish Carter begins his assault on the three big events in the United States on Sunday June 12th with a start in the
infamous Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco.
The event is one of the oldest professional races in the world and starts in the icy cold water between the San
Francisco Piers and Alcatraz Island. Carter will be reunited on the start line with old foe and four-time world champion
Simon Lessing of Great Britain.
The event is raced over a 1.5 mile swim, 18 mile non drafting cycle and 8 mile run. Actor and occasional Triathlete
Robin Williams, who competes annually in the event, will also join Carter at the start line. The race will be screened
on national television in the United States with a strong pre race focus on the participation of the current Olympic
Champion.
Carter has been training for 2 weeks in Victoria, Canada with close friend and 2000 Olympic Champion Simon Whitfield. He
now can’t wait to get back to racing in earnest “I have been really enjoying the hard training and am very excited about
racing three of the biggest events in the world over the next few weeks starting with Alcatraz.”
Rounding out the United States campaign is the Lifetime Fitness Event in Minneapolis on July 16th, which has a NZ
$750,000.00 prize purse, and the biggest Triathlon in the world, The Chicago Triathlon on August 28th, which attracts
7,500 competitors.
