OGEN TRIO (NZ) July
New Zealand’s Ogen Trio will debut a new piece of music by New Zealand composer Michael Williams on their ten-centre nationwide tour in July. The piece, titled ‘Behind the Parapet’, uses amplification and other special effects not usually associated with classical music.

DEAN-EMMERSON-DEAN (AUSTRALIA) July/August
Aussie trio Dean-Emmerson-Dean play an unusual combination of instruments - clarinet, viola and piano. Viola player Brett Dean is also a well-known composer. Dean-Emmerson-Dean will perform his work Night Window on their New Zealand tour in July and August.

NEW ZEALAND COMMUNITY TRUST CHAMBER MUSIC CONTEST: NATIONAL FINAL August
The best young musicians battle it out at the National Final of New Zealand’s longest running music contest, the New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest. National Finalists are in to win cash and music prizes. The National Final will also feature a performance of the winning Original Composition.

MICHAEL HOUSTOUN (NZ) August/September
New Zealand pianist Michael Houstoun returns to perform in recital for Chamber Music New Zealand in August and September. He is looking forward to the four special recitals, which he describes as “divine music from first note to last”. Not to be missed.

FLIGHT (NZ) August/September/October
Two of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra’s best, flautist Bridget Douglas and harpist Carolyn Mills come together to perform as Flight. The harp and flute duo will perform ‘Pearls of the Sea’, by New Zealand composer Eve de Castro-Robinson, a new work commissioned by CMNZ for this tour.

PETERSEN QUARTET (GERMANY) September
Germany’s Petersen Quartet visit New Zealand for the first time in September. The Petersen Quartet will perform Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, one of the best known string quartets, with its hauntingly beautiful slow movement and dark, dramatic beginning and ending.
