The world of children’s literature alive and well at THE EDGE®
AUCKLAND, June 8, 2005 ”THE EDGE®, Auckland’s leading performing arts precinct, celebrates ten incredible years as a
major partner in New Zealand’s Storylines Festival - an initiative that began in 1992 and has grown to become the
largest children’s literature festival in the world.
Governor General, Dame Sylvia Cartwright, officially opened this years’ festival last night (SUBS: Tuesday June 7,
2005), at a function held at Aotea Centre, THE EDGE®. With a special guest appearance by Katherine Paterson, the
award-winning US author, and many of our own leading children’s writers and illustrators, the evening celebrated the
world of reading - the greatest gift you can give to children.
“This is the 10th year that THE EDGE® has worked in partnership with the Children’s Literature Foundation of New
Zealand,” says Greg Innes, Chief Executive, THE EDGE®. “We are extremely proud of the small role that we have played in
helping Storylines become the biggest celebration of children’s literature, writers, illustrators, publishers and
readers in the world.”
Last year, more than 25,000 children and families made the most of the free family day at Aotea Centre, THE EDGE® and
the event just continues to grow. This years’ programme at THE EDGE® promises to be equally as fun-filled with celebrity
read-aloud sessions, book making, author signings, workshops and face painting and much more.
