CLEVELAND ART AWARDS 2004 – call for entries – PRIZE MONEY INCREASES
The Cleveland Living Arts Charitable Trust in association with the Dunedin City Council invites entries to the Annual
Cleveland Art Awards 2005.
This year the total prize pool increases to $10,500.
The Trust is delighted to announce that the Judge for 2005 is Neil Roberts, Collections Manager and Senior Curator at
the Christchurch Art Gallery. A University of Canterbury graduate in both Fine Arts and Art History, over the last three
decades Neil has immersed himself in a wide involvement in art, spreading his interest across many disciplines
including: art practice, teaching, writing and curating. Neil Roberts is a respected art historian with an excellent
knowledge of art across all mediums ideally placing him to select from the eclectic range that is represented in the
exhibition. The Cleveland Art Awards and Exhibition continues to seek to celebrate the diversity of the art process
rather than the promotion of a particular trend or discipline.
Awards are held in two categories: Painting and Works on Paper by Otago Southland and South Canterbury artists; and
Sculpture/Ceramics/Applied Arts by South Island Artists.
This year there will not be a Jewellery category due to the establishment of a separate National jewellery award
scheduled for March 2006.
Awards for 2005 are:
Premier award $3,000 – two prizes, one in each category
Highly Commended $1,500 - two prizes, one in each category
Small works prize - $1,000 – painting & works on paper
And of course the ever popular Peoples Choice Award, one prize of: $500, which will be announced at the end of the Award
exhibition.
