The exhibition includes new work by Ralph Hotere.
Ralph Hotere has made a special painting to mark the 20th anniversary of the
Rainbow Warrior bombing. The work relates to his well-known 'Black Rainbow'
series. On July 10th 1985 the Greenpeace flagship the Rainbow Warrior was in
Auckland, New Zealand, having just completed a journey in the Pacific.
Greenpeace was preparing a voyage into Moruroa to protest the continued
French nuclear testing programme.
French scuba divers planted two limpet mines on the hull of the Warrior. The
subsequent blasts sank the Warrior, and took the life of a young
photographer, Fernando Pereira.
Hotere continues to make works in relation to political and social issues
important to him.
