New Zealand School of Dance Joins Celebrations in French Polynesia
The New Zealand School of Dance has captured the attention of Tahiti’s L’Ecole de Danse by being invited to take part in their 10th anniversary celebrations, from 4 – 14 June 2005.
Front couple: Antonia Hewitt and Daniel Smith, Back couple (in white): Natalie Hona and Luke Hanna.
Four School of Dance students will be appearing within a series of gala performances at Papeete’s Cultural Centre, dancing Jeffrey Tan’s duet, Façade, and a specially created work from recent graduate Travis Khan, Leap of Faith.
Director of L’Ecole de Danse, Annie Fayn, had this to say about the invitation to the New Zealand School of Dance: “On this special occasion, L’Ecole de Danse is very happy to share the stage with other dancers from the Pacific. The New Zealand School of Dance is a renowned training establishment and this experience will truly be motivating and enriching for our students”.
It is hoped from this exchange that stronger ties will be formed between the New Zealand School of Dance and other training schools in the Pacific.
In tandem with the performances, Wendy Wallace Associate Director and Head of Contemporary Dance at the School of Dance, will be offering several master classes.
