The huge success of bro’Town can now be found on the internet with the recent launch of the bro’Town website at www.brotown.co.nz. It’s official, bro’Town is going global.
New Zealand’s first animated adult sitcom is a modern day fairytale about five Auckland teenagers growing up in the city. bro'Town chronicles the schoolboy misadventures of Vale, Valea, Sione, Jeff da Maori and Mack in a proudly suburban, non-PC yet very Kiwi satire.
“We’ve been thrilled by the incredible response to the bro’Town website,” said Elizabeth Mitchell from Firehorse Films, producers and creators of the bro’Town series. “In the first three weeks we’ve received enquiries and orders from Australia, UK and the USA. The response from New Zealand and all over the world has been brilliant!”
The funky, interactive bro’Town website was developed by Cucumber Software who are well known for their fun, professional and innovative service. The initial brief was to launch an online shop supported by a secure, multi-lingual content management and document management system.
“The first site was launched in April with no publicity at all,” said Jodie Tipping, General Manager at Cucumber Software. “But the 8-14 year olds discovered it immediately and over 2000 people had registered with the fan club within the first three weeks of going live.”
The reason for this success is clear when you visit the website. With an online shop for buying t-shirts and DVDs, a bro’Town fan club, vital stats of the main characters (including star signs and favourite food – Mack likes Duck a l’Orange!) and news on what’s happening in bro’Town (Prince Charles’ visit), there’s a lot going on already!
But, the bro’s aren’t gonna stop there. Already there’s talk of bro’Town screensavers, desktop backgrounds, multi-lingual options for all the other bro’s out there who don’t speak English (or bro’lish?). Also expect to see games and more functionality booked for release soon.
“Firehorse Films want to maintain and build on the momentum and enthusiasm of the bro’Town fans. Plus take this to a wider market,” explains Jodie at Cucumber Software. “We are working closely with Firehorse Films to develop innovative ideas and interactive activities which will keep the current fan base strong and attract new fans as well.”
Based on the fearless comic genius of the multi-talented Naked Samoans Theatre Group, bro’Town’s primary aim is to make people laugh. The series also seeks to foster tolerance by confronting delicate issues, like racism and violence, with the writers’ unique brand of home grown humour. With bro’Town dub, the world is their oyster!
