Auckland War Memorial Museum delighted with top up contribution from government
Auckland War Memorial today expressed their delight that government will contribute an additional $3.6 million (GST exclusive) to its Grand Atrium Project.
“We are grateful that the government has recognised the extraordinary escalation in worldwide construction costs and have adjusted their funding in recognition of this”, said Dr Rodney Wilson, the Museum Director.
“We have raised $52 million towards the project to date and have already fulfilled the government requirements to secure the additional government funds. As a result we are now much closer to our targets, with a further couple of million to raise.”
Dr Wilson states that this announcement gives the Museum Trust Board the ability to commit to contracts for the completion of the remaining works and keep to the planned competition date of December 2006.
“We are very grateful to the Minister of Arts and Culture the Rt Hon Prime Minister Helen Clark, the Associate Minister Hon Judith Tizard and the Ministry for Culture and Heritage for their continued commitment to this visionary redevelopment”.
