Life Flight Open Day this Sunday

Published: Fri 13 May 2005 09:29 AM
The Life Flight Open Day, part of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Awareness Month, will be held this Sunday. In addition to many displays and activities, people will have the opportunity to go into a draw to win a helicopter ride over Wellington City.
The Open Day will be held between 10am and 4pm at the Air Rescue Centre on George Bolt Street on the Lyall Bay side of Wellington Airport.
There is a gold coin entry donation fee with all money raised going to support the Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter through the Westpac Chopper Appeal.
"The open day has proven to be a very popular family event" says Bettina Sutton, Life Flight Marketing Manager. "Last year we had between three and four thousand people come through the air rescue centre".
Both the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Life FLight NZ fixed wing air ambulance will be on display, as long as they are not called out on an emergency mission. Visitors to the Open Day will be able to speak with our pilots and crews as well as having the chance to talk to and view the equipment used by the specialist medical teams from Wellington Hospital's ICU, Neonatal and Transit Care units and paramedics from Wellington Free Ambulance.
Specific displays and activites on the day include:
- the Wellington Airport Fire Service will be putting on displays at 12 & 2 PM.
- the Westpac Rescue Helicopter will be putting on winch displays at 11am, 1pm and 3:30pm.
- "Puzzle and Random" will be putting on clown shows at 1:30 & 3 PM
- rides for the kids and a food caravan will be available the entire day
Everyone present will also have the opportunity to go into a draw for a helicopter ride over Wellington City, subject to the helicopter not being called away on an emergency mission.
