The Lighting and Sound Theatre Club
After successfully running the Lighting and Sound Theatre Club for 8 – 12 year olds at Ridgway School for most of last year and continuing this year, A.D.D.U. (Across the Ditch from Down Under) Productions are privileged to offer this unique programme to other schools in the Wellington region.
The club is run once a week at the student’s school for an hour (for primary aged students) or an hour and a half (for secondary aged schools) after the end of a school day.
During these sessions the students are facilitated though the basics of lighting, sound, scenery construction, publicity and design. The goal for the students (with adult supervision and support) is to put on an event that the other school students can attend two times a year. One of which is a fundraiser for the school.
After running the club successfully at Ridgway school the Theatre Club members have produced a simulated radio production of “Badjelly The Witch” by Spike Milligan and two school discos.
The Theatre Club at Ridgway School at present is learning how a sound system and lighting rig is put together and what each component does. This is followed by basic set design and construction techniques. The goal is produce, design, set up and operate a dance for the whole school at the end of term 2.
The cost
There is a small charge per student per session; $2.00 for primary school age and $3.00 per secondary school age student.
This covers the cost of maintaining the equipment and any supplies required (but not hireage of a workspace). We ask that a room or enclosed space be provided free of charge to help keep the cost for each student down.
The Facilitator
Stuart Hamilton worked and trained in the professional theatrical industry for 8 years before the birth of his second child in 2001, for which he became a full time househusband. He then re-trained refocused and equipped A.D.D.U. Productions. Currently he is completing the animation course at Bowerman School of Design while developing a client base.
A.D.D.U. Productions
A.D.D.U. Productions is a not for profit business with two goals;
1. To offer groups basic lighting, sound, rigging, scenery, crewing and tutorship for a donation. Reducing the technical requirements compromises due to budgetary constraints.
To facilitate the learning of people from the age of eight years in the basics of Lighting, Sound, Scenery, Publicity and Design in a fun focussed group environment. Enabling them to develop an awareness and skill base for working on future theatrical productions. Along with developing their lateral thinking, problem solving and work as part of a group skills.
