Welcome to me’ wake…
Milo O’Connor is alive and well.
However since people only say good things about a man after he’s died, Milo’s decided to hold his own wake ahead of time.
And you’re invited…
In an Auckland Irish pub Milo gathers with family, friends, his favourite band, the Wren Buoys – and a few uninvited ghosts. But this won’t be the rousing tribute he planned…
A comedy with heart, about a first generation Irish New Zealand family, Milo’s Wake promises a riotous night of emotion, song and laughter. Milo’s Wake is part of the 2005 ODDFELLOWS New Zealand International Comedy Festival and opens at The Dog’s Bollix Bar in Auckland on Thursday 14 April.
Milo is a whirlwind of energy, a hilarious and charismatic bloke who has tried hard to fit into Kiwi culture and run a successful business – and now dreams of driving off into the sunset in a brand spanking new motor-home.
Milo is played by Peter Feeney (Cold Feet, Toy Love, Shortland St, Secret Agent Men) who leads an exceptional cast of Susan Brady (The Women, Shortland St, Lawless, Marlin Bay) and talented newcomers Ashley Hawkes and Hannah Marshall. Musical director Peter Hobbs and Irish producer Conor McSweeney add their own unique edge and Irish craic.
This is the Auckland premiere of Milo’s Wake: the award winning 2001 play from the talented pens of Michael and Margery Forde. A proven crowd pleaser in its Australian tour and Court Theatre, Christchurch seasons, this is the first production ever in an actual pub - in this case The Dog’s Bollix Bar, an utterly authentic Irish pub with a solid reputation for Auckland’s foremost live music performances: the perfect place to hear the songs, stories and sentiments of Milo’s Wake - with a drink or two along the way.
Milo’s Wake is at The Dog’s Bollix Bar, Auckland, from April 14 to May 26, Tues-Thurs 7.30pm & Sundays 4pm.Book at Ticketek on (09) 307-5000 or www.ticketek.com.
