Father and Son compete at 125th Nationals
The 125th National Brass Band Championships of New Zealand begin this week with musicians descending on the capital city
of Wellington.
The first major event is the Invitation Slow Melody competition to be held at the Ilot Theatre which is within the
Wellington Convention Centre where all events will be held from Wednesday 23rd till Monday 28th April.
A star line up of both southern and northern hemisphere players have been chosen by the Brass Bands Association national
management committee for the Slow Melody competition to compete in one of the premier events of contest week. “This
event has grown to become a highly sought after title” said spokesman Owen Melhuish. “This year we have players using
string quartets and trombone quartets as accompaniment – plus for the first time a father and son combination in father
Trevor Bremner, cornet virtuoso of Brisbane and his son David, principal trombone with the New Zealand Symphony
Orchestra.”
“We are also excited about the international line up of players from Australia, Sweden and John Lewis of Brighouse and
Rastrick plus ex Briton Alexandra Kerwin now living in New Zealand” said Melhuish.
Event will begin 8.00pm Wednesday 23rd March at Ilot Theatre Wellington Convention Centre.
