Girls’ Day Out Turns Five – And Celebrates With Style
What woman can resist the chance to meet their favourite celeb, sip bubbles, check out the latest fashion, have a secret bit of chocolate, try out a whole range of new and exciting products – and win a brand new Limited Edition model Suzuki Swift, the perfect fashion accessory just by going through the doors?
All those temptations and more will be on show at Girls’ Day Out (“GDO”) from March 11 – 13 at the Auckland Showgrounds, Greenlane.
Girls’ Day Out, Australasia’s biggest event for woman, is celebrating its fifth birthday! And this year it’s going to be bigger, glitzier and more wonderful than ever.
“With four distinct zones – Health and Fitness, Beauty, Fashion and Lifestyle, we’ve got something for all women,” says GDO’s Tony Regan.
“Girls’ Day Out offers entertainment, food, wine, interactive attractions and more. Last year’s most popular activities are all back, including the World of Bendon lingerie show, the Pump Dunk-the-Hunk tank (with a fine line-up of hunks to dunk), the TV2 GDO Big Sister reality event brought to you by ZM and New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, and the Red Tickets Netball Challenge.”
“And we’ve added exhilarating new features,” says Tony, “including the 13 going on 30 DVD Theatre powered by the Bose Lifestyle Home Entertainment System, the Champion Hip Hop Dance Challenge in association with Flava96.1, and leading woman’s authors speaking about and signing their books.” The theatre will also play host to leading NZ celebrities during the meet and greet hour each day of GDO.
“There will be movie previews from Sony Pictures, excellent speakers, celebrity chefs and barmen setting things on fire - literally, and one lucky girl will have a chance to get their modelling break thanks to the Vanity Walk Model Search with ZM and Madison Magazine.”
Starring at the Fast & Fabulous Fisher & Paykel Kitchen in association with NewstalkZB, will be Peter Chaplin, who’s travelled extensively as a rock and roll chef for Madonna, Iggy Pop and other stars; Garth Hokianga, who’s brought a new wave of Maori foods to the public; and Adam Newell, one of the only two New Zealand chefs with a Michelin star.
The TV2 GDO Big Sister reality event in association with ZM and New Zealand Woman’s Weekly will put 10 contestants (5 guys and 5 girls) to task to see who survives living in the big sister house all weekend to emerge with $5,000 cash – move over big brother!
Inspirational speakers include Andrea Molloy, a leading life coach and author, and former personal coach for TV One’s Good Morning; Karen McMillan, talking about her new book, Love In Aotearoa, a celebration of New Zealander’s attitudes to love; and Kim Morrison and Fleur Whelligan with tips from their books ‘Like Chocolate for Women’ and ‘Like an Apple a Day’.
Entry to Girls’ Day Out is only $15 (under 10yrs free) and includes a ‘GDO Chequebook’ with thousands of dollars worth of event-only offers, retail coupons, prize draws, competitions, and sampling vouchers.
“Over the past four events more than 100,000 women have sampled the delights of Girls’ Day Out – and this year we expect tens of thousands more to join them,” says Tony.
Girls’ Day Out is on from March 11 – 13 at the Auckland Showgrounds Greenlane, Auckland. The inaugural GDO Sydney opens April 15-17 and hits Melbourne again April 28 – May 1, 2005.
