Music lovers get a chance to hear some of Wellington's outstanding opera singers perform favourite opera tunes in an outdoor concert at Oporua Homestead, South Wairarapa, on Sunday 6th March.
Opera at Oporua is a fundraising event organized by Wellington Friends of the Opera. The concert features well-known arias and songs from composers such as Puccini, Mozart, Gounod, Johann Strauss and Lloyd Webber. Leading Wellington soprano, Jenny Wollerman will perform, along with up-and-coming singers - Phillip Rhodes and Lexus Song Quest semi-finalist Alison Cormack. Wellington musician Bruce Greenfield will accompany the singers.
Beginning at 12 noon, guests can enjoy a catered lunch with wine on Oporua's lawns or under the shade of grand old trees, while being entertained during the afternoon by the singers.
"Oporua Homestead is a wonderful setting for experiencing opera," says Alex Reedijk, General Director of The NBR New Zealand Opera. "It's a great way to make the most of the end of summer as people eat, drink and enjoy the surroundings, while taking in some of our best opera talent the Wellington region has to offer."
Opera at Oporua is on Sunday 6th March, 12.00- 3pm. Tickets, including lunch and wine are $60 and must be purchased in advance from Friends of the Opera - Lorraine Olphert (04) 472 4666 or Margaret Hunn (04) 475 7743.
