Shock move: Auckland City Council shuts down One Tree Hill Swingball Tournament
People in 12 different towns and cities all over New Zealand were out there in the sun this afternoon enjoying a game of Swingball. In fact, the mayors of Palmerston North and and Invercargill both turned out to join in the fun.
They were playing in Rotorua, the Kapiti coast, Paikok Hill, Mount Maunganui, Garden Place Hamilton, Frank Kitts Park Wellington, and Scarbourgh Domain in Christchurch, just to name a few.
They were also playing atop One Tree Hill ... until an angry council man in a golf cart came tearing up Auckland’s loveliest hill announcing in a very authoritarian tone “You can’t put things in the ground” and promptly pulled all the Swingballs out of the grass much to the shock of the public who ere enjoying a sporting day out.
After his swift departure, the good people of Auckland, a little irate and having their game interrupted, picked up the poles, stomped them back into the dirt and continued their match.
The event was finally closed down when Armourguard turned up and put a stop to any fun.
Apparently it is fine to “stick things in the ground” and have fun in other parts of New Zealand but not in Auckland.
ZM DJ Iain Stables is enraged and has promised "Dick Hubbard and sidekick Bruce Hucker a nasty surprise in the future...."
