Radio Active’s annual reggae/dub celebration will enlighten Wellington soil once again...
Waitangi Day, February 6, 12-6pm
The Hataitai Velodrome, Wellington.
Radio Active 89FM are proud to bring you One Love 2005 – Positive Vibrations – a celebration of Cultural Unity, Love and Summer. The day consists of live Dub, Roots and Reggae Music, and an enticing array of stalls including children’s entertainment, an on-licensed bar, Kai of all sorts and many purchasable treats.
One Love is an exclusively Radio Active organised event. It is free to the public and has been called ‘New Zealand’s most popular Waitangi Day celebration’. Held at The Velodrome Cycling track within the lush greenery of the Town Belt overlooking Hataitai, it is the perfect location to lie back on the grass and soak up the love and sun in celebration of Aotearoa’s National Day.
For the first time since it’s creation One Love brings an International line up, presenting The Blood and Fire Soundsystem (UK) against the backdrop of the heaviest bass beats; urban dance essentials The Blood and Fire SoundSystem and motor-mouth toaster Rankin' Joe (Jamaica) prepare to rock the mic.
It is necessary to express their great and prolific stance in the reggae/dub music arena. In some record shops around Manchester, England, you can pick up little stickers, which proclaim ‘Blood & Fire – No. 1 in the world for Reggae’, and in terms of reissue material, there will be little argument. Founded in Manchester in ‘93 as a reissue label, Blood and Fire specialise in resurrecting classic reggae and dub back into the light. In ‘97 The Blood and Fire SoundSystem was launched to help promote the label and the powerful musical heritage it represents. The company has certainly succeeded, having established its own in-house style of graphics, full notes, recording details and most importantly music that is always of the highest quality. Accompanying Blood and Fire are local reggae maestro’s Scribes of Ra - an Afrobeat orchestra formed of a "who's who" of Welli Town musical heroes. Prime instigator is expert guitarist Mike Fabulous. Members hail from The Phoenix Foundation, Fat Freddie's Drop, Twinset, Trinity Roots, The Bad Apple Orchestra, The Blackseeds, Orquesta Salvaje... and the list goes on!!!
Before the live music, beats will be provided by Topknot, Misteek and Ras Twig on the decks.
One Love entertainment runs from midday till 6pm.
