Grace Kelly had one named after her, Princess Diana was never seen without hers and now New Zealanders are being asked to create their ultimate bag.
Vodafone New Zealand – sponsor of the Vodafone iD Dunedin Fashion Week – is searching for three innovative bag designs to be constructed from recycled Vodafone billboards and paraded during this year’s show.
“Bags are no longer just a practical accessory for storing daily necessities – they’ve become an essential fashion item that make their own statement,” says Vodafone sponsorship manager Brendon O’Connor.
“That’s why we’re asking New Zealanders with a passion for fashion to design their own bag. It can be any style that takes their fancy – evening, street, office, man-bag – bearing in mind that some of the bag will be constructed from billboard vinyl.”
Vodafone is working in partnership with Glenda Keegan and Anna Church who came up with a unique concept to use recycled vinyl to make bags. After working on the concept for over a year, they are now manufacturing and distributing their bag designs under their company, WAS New Zealand.
“We’re delighted to be working alongside Vodafone on this campaign and think it’s great that they’ve taken the initiative to find a use for their old billboards”, says Keegan.
Entrants can draw, sketch or mock-up their creation and Vodafone and WAS New Zealand will do the rest.
The top three bag designs, to be judged by Vodafone, WAS New Zealand and Dunedin designer, Tanya Carlson, will be paraded during a special mini-show at the Vodafone iD Dunedin Fashion Show on Saturday March 12.
“As the winning bags will be constructed from recycled Vodafone billboard vinyl, we’re looking for designs that complement that material and are innovative,” says O’Connor.
Each of the three winners, and a friend, will be flown to Dunedin to attend the show and also attend pre and post-show functions.
In addition, the winners will receive $1,000 to spend on clothes by designers featured in the show and a Vodafone live! GX 15 - Video and PXT phone.
Entry forms can be downloaded from www.vodafone.co.nz/bagmebaby. All entries must be received by 5.00pm, Wednesday 23rd February to: Bag Me Baby, Vodafone iD Dunedin, PO Box 68347, Newton, Auckland.
