NHNZ to tell the stories of Tsunami survivors
NHNZ has been commissioned by US cable channel TLC to make a programme about survivors of the December 26 tsunami. Scheduled to air on January 31, the programme will comprise interviews with survivors and amateur and news footage to tell incredible stories of survival. Producer of Tsunami Survivors, Malcolm Hall says the show will be as much about the triumph of the human spirit against great adversity as it is about the devastating force of nature.
“The tsunami was a force of almost unimaginable devastation; this programme will tell the stories of a few individuals who were caught up in this nightmare, the stories of ordinary people who went to hell and back on December 26.
“There is no doubt this is a disaster of great magnitude, figures of millions being homeless and hundreds of thousands dead are being constantly repeated by the world’s media. This scale makes it difficult to understand the human experience of the tsunami; the sheer terror of a mother who can’t find a child; or of those caught under the giant wave itself,” says Hall.
NHNZ is one of the world’s leading producers of factual programming embracing the genres of nature, health, science, adventure, and people. With over 70 programmes currently in production, its crews work in locations around the world to produce a diversity of films for international broadcasters including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, Discovery Health, National Geographic Channel, France 5, NHK in Japan and NDR in Germany. Based in Dunedin, New Zealand, the company is wholly owned by Fox Television Studios.
