New IMMF Secretariat Announced
The International Music Managers’ Forum (IMMF) has elected its new Secretariat at its General Assembly at the Noorderslag Festival in Holland.
UK manager Peter Jenner was re-elected Chairman for a further two year term while Volker May (MMF Germany) and Stephen Garvan (MMF US) were appointed vice chairmen for Europe and the Americas respectively.
Michael McMartin (MMF Australia) was elected IMMF Executive Director and will also be responsible for the development of new MMF affiliates throughout the rest of the world.
New Zealand and Poland were formally ratified as full IMMF member states, taking the total number of national music manager organisations under the IMMF umbrella to thirteen.
The IMMF Assembly expressed its gratitude to outgoing secretariat office holders Nick Ashton-Hart and Wim Reijnen, both of whom have taken on other roles in the music industry outside of the IMMF.
Peter Jenner stated that the main focus of the IMMF for the forthcoming term will be on “dealing with the challenges presented by the new technologies both to the music industry and to copyright regimes plus continuing our participation as an NGO at WIPO while furthering relations with other relevant national and international representative music or rights related bodies.”
Jenner expressed his excitement at the potential of the proposed formation of a European Live Music network in which the IMMF has played and will continue to play a significant role. “This should lead to real stepd toward the creation of a genuine single market in Europe for the music professional.”
