Community Sport Promotes Participation
A give-it-a-go attitude is pretty much all you need to see you through the first event of Community Sport Trust's UCAN2 series.
The Sydenham Motor Group UCAN2 Series kicks off this Sunday, January 23 at Maxwells Road, Tauranga.
There are plenty of activities to choose – from a mini triathlon, duathlon, 3km and 5km fun runs and walks. Participants can enter as individuals or as a team.
As with all Community Sport event, the UCAN2 will reflect the Trust's philosophy of providing opportunities for people of any age and any ability to 'give it a go'. Even pushchairs are welcome.
Though these events are based on 'participation', the 15 year history of Community Sport has seen many a budding athlete go on to perform at world class level. Experienced athletes are expected to take part to fine tune their training for other events and enjoy the laidback family atmosphere.
The UCAN2 course incorporates Harbour Drive, Kulim Park and the streets of Matua.
A prize giving will be held when the last person crosses the finish line. The major spot prize is a Zum street bike valued at $899 donated by Hedgehog Bikes, in association with GT. It will be given away at the second UCAN2 event on February 6. Smiths Sports Shoes will also be providing a number of spot prizes.
Sunday, February 6, will see the second and final UCAN2 kick off at Coronation Park, Mount Maunganui. It will be the same format as the first, but with slightly longer courses.
