Free music mecca this Anniversary Weekend
A free citywide music mecca of six events - including a street dance party, orchestras and bands jamming in parks - is planned by Auckland City this Anniversary Weekend.
The action is spread right across the three days:
- Dance acts Baitercell and Schumacher, Misfits of Science, Tha Feelstyle and DJ Logikal will perform to a massive Dancing in the Street party on Friday 28 January. It will be held from 8pm to midnight in closed-to-traffic Lorne Street, behind the St James Theatre
- A 6,000 strong crowd is expected to be jammin' in Pt Chev to the sounds of Che Fu, Fast Crew, 48 May and Goodnight Nurse on Monday 31 January. The Edge Jam in the Park concert will be held in Coyle Park, Point Chevalier from 2-6pm
- The golden sounds of the hugely popular Goldenhorse, ably supported by members of the Auckland Philharmonia, can be heard at the Solid Gold Saturday concert, held Tahaki Reserve in Mt Eden on Saturday 29 January, 5.30-9pm. This concert is supported by The Endeavour Charitable Trust
- Waiheke celebrates hot New Zealand talent with Goodnight Nurse, Spacifix, Goon and 4Eulogi performing at the "Little Day In" concert at Onetangi Sports Park, Saturday 29 January from 2pm onwards
- Enjoy a Sunday picnic at the ever popular Montana Jazz at the Rotunda and Drake Concert Series concerts at the Auckland Domain. This weekend features Mojave from 2-4pm and Doch (all the way from Australia) from 4.30-6pm.
Auckland City Music in Parks has plenty of music and plenty of space to enjoy it in this summer. Citizens are urged to grab some food and friends and head out to one of the city’s beautiful parks to enjoy some first class music. For more details check www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/mips or listen to The Edge 94.2FM.
These concerts are just some of more than 60 free events provided by Auckland City, in association with Radioworks, as part of the Ak@Play summer events programme.
