Harlem Globetrotter to become a St Laurence Saint
Festus "Fess" Hawkins a 6-11 Centre who toured with the Harlem Globetrotters in 2002 has signed to play for the St Laurence Saints next season, Chief Executive Michael Bennington confirmed today. New St Laurence Saints sponsor Drivetime Cars helped to secure the signature of Fess.
The new St Laurence Saints recruit is currently playing in the American ABA league which is a feeder league to the NBA with past and future NBA players. Fess was recommended to the franchise by the Sydney Kings coaching staff who have worked out with him in the past.
"I am delighted to have a player of Fess Hawkins calibre with the club. At 6'11" he will bring size and rebounding to our frontline, this will shift some of the workload from Ben Knight and allow him to play his natural game. Fess is Div 2. All-American and has experience in the Big 10 with Illinios. He is currently playing with NBA greats Scotty Thurman and Todd Day in the ABA and will bring a whole new perspective to our team in the areas we need it most" said St Laurence Saints Head Coach Mike McHugh.
Wellington fans will not beable to see the showtime of the ex Globetrotter until March when the Saints open the season against the Waikato Titans on 20th March 2005 at the Wellington Events Centre the home of the St Laurence Saints.
