Skycity Throws Party Of The Year For New Year’s Eve 2004
SKYCITY Auckland - the location that traditionally hosts the nation’s largest annual party - takes on a carnival theme to welcome in this New Year’s Eve (2005).
The gaming areas, restaurants and bars will feature Mardi Gras style entertainment with flamboyant roving characters throughout the venue and renowned local and international performances as the evening builds up to the new year. *
At the stroke of midnight, Auckland’s New Year will once again be signified by the spectacular fireworks display from the tip of Sky Tower lighting up the night sky. Inside, guests will be treated to streamer cannons to support the official countdown to farewell 2004.
“SKYCITY is one of the most popular venues for New Year’s Eve revellers,” says Jill Birch, SKYCITY General Manager, Marketing.
“We provide a variety of complementary entertainment options under one roof.
“Last year an estimated 30,000 people entered SKYCITY on New Year’s Eve and we served close to 20,000 meals on the one day. We expect similar or greater numbers this year and for this reason, we recommend people book in advance to be assured a seat if they wish to dine on site.
“This is especially important this year for families as SKYCITY is going to be an R20 venue for New Year’s Eve. The age restriction will not apply for children and those under 20 years of age who have booked in advance and been authorised as either a hotel or restaurant guest,” she says.
The main gaming floor will be the focus of the theming and will feature an international line up of entertainment kicking off with popular local covers band Double Take on centre stage (from7:30pm) with Australian band Calypso Delight taking over from 10:30pm to welcome in the new year. Local duo Ingrid and Peter will entertain from 7pm – 10pm and Super Highway will be the main show band performing from 10:00pm in The New City Bar.
The latest dance beats will be offered by George FM DJs Grant Marshall and General Lee in Bar3 and PLAY Casino – SKYCITY’s newest adjoining bar and gaming facility on level three of SKYCITY.
Popular duo Mark and Linda will entertain in the Atrium Bar on level two and in Alto Casino and Bar, Leon and Gina will kick start the evening followed by local band Pulse to rock into the countdown to midnight.
Diners in many of SKYCITY’s restaurants will also be in for a variety of carnival themed New Year’s Eve entertainment as well as special menus for the occasion.
Federal Street will once again be closed from 6pm on Friday 31 December until 2am to assist with traffic flow through the central city.
SKYCITY will offer New Year’s Eve guests a special flat car parking rate of $20 for the night to cover parking from 6pm on 31 December through to 6 am on 1 January 2005. Customers can pre pay for their parking on arrival to cut down on queues waiting to exit at the end of the night.
- Please note that SKYCITY’s gaming areas and bars are all R20 for New Year’s Eve from 7:30pm. Children may dine in restaurants if accompanied by adults but bookings are recommended for family seatings.
- SKYCITY Xmas hours of operation are:
