Bible Runner-up in Best-seller List
New Zealand’s perennial best-selling book, the Bible, has had to accept second place in the best-seller list this year following the extraordinary success of the late Michael King’s book, ‘The Penguin History of New Zealand’.
Although the combined totals of Bibles (56,000) and New Testaments (101,000) distributed by Bible Society, roughly equals the total number of ‘The Penguin Short History of New Zealand’ sold, 56,000 copies of any book is usually enough to make it the best-seller in any other year.
Bible Society is New Zealand’s major distributor of Bibles. Other book importing and distribution houses account for an estimated 15,000 or more copies of the Bible sold each year.
