SAVOUR NEW ZEALAND 2005 SIGNS "KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL" AUTHOR
Anthony Bourdain heads stellar line up of international and local food and wine masters.
The steamy kitchen secrets of celebrity chef, New York restaurateur and writer, Anthony Bourdain will be revealed as a
highlight of the third Savour New Zealand masterclass (6-8 May, 2005)
The award-winning writer heads a list of renowned food and wine specialists from New Zealand and around the world in a
weekend of unprecedented food and wine education and entertainment!
Savour New Zealand is the brainchild of Christchurch directors Michael Lee Richards, Tina Duncan and Astrid Andersen.
Together they have created a New Zealand version of the masterclasses that are hugely popular in Australia and around
Michael Lee Richards says while masterclasses are a proven formula for the foodie population, Savour New Zealand offers
another dimension for a wider audience.
"The idea of a weekend totally immersed in food and wine, exploring its huge potential beyond just tasting has really
struck a chord with many delegates who see the experience as a voyage of discovery that goes way beyond the boundaries
of a casual cooking course."
Since the first Savour New Zealand weekend in 2001, the trio have managed to attract not only world famous chefs like
Antonio Carluccio, Stephanie Alexander, and Sophie Grigson, but also highlighted the unique qualities of New Zealand and
particularly South Island produce to an international audience.
The programme for 2005 is yet to be completed with a final list of presenters and events to be announced in early
February. However the list to date represents a wide cross section of not only New Zealand food styles and innovations
but a strong international contingent.
Guest appearances from East West fusion hero Cheong Liew of Melbourne and Middle Eastern cuisine guru Greg Malouf are
guaranteed crowd pleasers with San Francisco's Melissa Perello, named by US Food & Wine magazine as one of its ten "Best New Chefs for 2004", a feature presenter in 2005. Another special international
guest will be announced in the New Year.
New Zealand presenters include a cornucopia of foodie high flyers including Tony Astle, Simon Gault and Judith Tabron,
Greg Malouf; Fiona Smith, Darryl Maffey, Richard Hingston, Tony Smith and Al Brown.
The growth in popularity of Savour New Zealand has seen organisers realign the event to cater to even more delegates in
2005 with space for 600 participants across the weekend. The range of classes and events is designed for everyone from
beginners to hospitality professionals with a new attraction in 2005, a symposium featuring well known food and wine
experts including Anthony Bourdain discussing what makes their "blood boil" about the food industry.
As well as the information and education side of the event, delegates will be able to enjoy a welcome cocktail party,
lunch, morning and afternoon teas and they have the option of attending a spectacular gala dinner as a grand finale for
