Work Off The Christmas Pud In Surfbreaker Triathlon
Set two days after Christmas the annual Eve's Surfbreaker Triathlon is a great way to work off the pud and have some healthy fun with friends.
Resurrected last year by the Community Sport Trust, the Surfbreaker is the longest running local triathlon and is staged each year at the Mount Maunganui main beach.
Set to kick off on Monday, December 27 at 8am the triathlon is open to experienced athletes, novices, those in training and holidaymakers – either as individuals or in a team.
In the past a number of big name athletes have competed in the event, including four times New Zealand Ironman Cameron Brown.
The 750m swim is unique as it's an 'M' shaped swim in the surf which means swimmers enter and exit the water twice. If surf swimming sounds a bit daunting, there is a 2km run option instead.
The 16km cycle is fast and flat and it finishes with a 5km run, the last 400m in soft sand.
A number of great prizes are up for grabs this year including a Bodyline wetsuit and a Raleigh Crusier bike from Pack n Pedal.
Entry forms are available from local sport and cycle shops, Coastline FM or by contacting Community Sport Trust on 07 578 7025 or comsport@xtra.co.nz.
Entries will be taken until the event start.
