Top Local Comedians And Edgy Late Night Comedy
12th Annual New Zealand Community Trust World Buskers Festival, Christchurch, New Zealand Thursday, 20 to Sunday 30 January, 2005
Rising stars and established names of the comedy world – Te Radar, Jo Randerson and The Topp Twins, among others – share top billing with international stars during the New Zealand Community Trust World Buskers Festival.
“Our popularity demands us to always be on the lookout for great talent, new venues and shows”, says Festival Director, Jodi Wright. “The secret behind the breadth of the Festival’s popularity is to tailor each location to specific audiences “.
Madness at Midnight is the latest innovation to the Buskers’ evening programmes. It’s a new show staged at two new performance venues employing the tried and true hosted format Festival audiences have enjoyed for years. Each location presents a range of select performers from the international line up developed around a specific focus. All the evening shows offer adults only entertainment. Crowds are entertained with an on-going MC performance that enhances the experience while gluing the individual acts into a cohesive whole.
Madness at Midnight, a comic, weird and wacky talent show, joins the two existing evening shows. Hosted by Sam Wills from 12 midnight to 1.30 am on The Strip, Oxford Terrace at the Azure Bar (21,22,23 & 25 January) and Coyotes (26,27,28 & 29 January). A performer donation at the door is greatly appreciated ($5 preferred).
- more - Then there’s the CPIT Busker Comedy Club, a cabaret style, outdoor variety show in the Arts Centre North Quad. Hosted by The Blackstreet Boyz and the Topp Twins the show runs nightly from Thursday 20 to Sunday 30 January, 7.00 pm – 10.30 pm (doors open at 5.30 pm). The Comedy Club was debuted last year and is the only outdoor evening performance. We’re seeking a gold coin ($2) entry donation and there are a few reserved tables each show. In the spirit of the festival, the performers will be passing the hat during and after the show.
Stand up and comedy theatre will also be back this year at The Loaded Hog with WAHO Late Night With The Buskers. Hosted by Te Radar and featuring Jo Randerson, Daniel Oldaker and other special guests, the show runs nightly from Thursday 20 to Sunday 30 January, 9.00 pm – 11.00 pm. A performer donation at the door is greatly appreciated ($5 preferred).
“Its great to be able to offer a variety of comedy on any given night”, says Festival Director, Jodi Wright.
Full programmes available 10 December online or in print from 6 January.
