Auckland Museum is proud to be hosting the presentation of a trip to Trieste, Italy to one lucky Auckland schoolgirl and
her family on Sunday 5 December at 10am in the Pictorial Gallery as part of the ‘I Dream of Italy’ art competition. Held
in association with Carpe Diem Worldwide (Italian not-for-profit organisation), the Newmarket Business Association and
the Parnell Trust as part of the existing ‘Heart of Art’ Festival, the competition has been opened up to children from
Auckland, Australia, Miami and Italy.
The judges chose the 20 local finalists out of 200 entries and than selected the winner last week. All 20 will showcase
in the Carpe Diem Young Art Catalogue and will be on display in Trieste for two months from early February. They will
then be shown in businesses around Newmarket and Parnell next May as part of the Heart of Art Festival.
Auckland Museum Education Services Manager Peter Millward says, “We are delighted to be taking part in an international
programme that encourages thoughtful creativity.”
The theme for the 2005 competition will be ‘World Peace’ and will be open to children from approximately 12 countries.
This will become a touring exhibition, opening in the Guggenheim Museum in New York in November, and including a leg at
the Auckland Museum.
