Kiwi download label celebrates first birthday
TMet Recordings New Zealand’s digital dance label is one year old on the 1st December, and riding the growing digital download wave. To celebrate this milestone they have an upcoming release in December by Baxter, one of the biggest names in the Kiwi dance scene. Baxter’s mix CDs have reached platinum sales in New Zealand, and this will be his debut release at www.tmet.co.nz
Other artists that have signed to the Kiwi download label are Javed Haider, winner of the Heineken Found at Thirst NZ competition in 2003, andy qroniq & The WBC, Blazem, Culprit, Chelfyn, Echo, Kyren, Les Filterbrats, Liquid Underground, Mr Sketchy, Nub, Romantech, Ryan Tregurtha, Si-Fi, State of Mind, and Waterboy. TMet’s goal is to help Kiwi producers onto the first step of the international ladder, and their youngest producer Lync is only 8 years old!
TMet Recordings are also pleased to announce two new additions to the TMet Whanau: Mistress Dirtbag (Twisted radio’s breakfast bitch) is helping Chelfyn & MsBehaviour with core TMet operations, with Justin Sane (Tidy NZ/Fragile) providing support on the A side.
Taking the collaborative approach to growth, TMet have established joint ventures with a number of Kiwi cluster partners over the past year such as Twisted (www.twisted.co.nz) a New Zealand dance community & radio station, and Data:Bass (www.databass.tk) New Zealand’s cheeky Drum & Bass Collective.
MsBehaviour, TMet’s Managing Director says, “TMet’s growth is testament to the power of the Kiwi creative collective. The sum is greater than the parts.”
One of the world’s first Open Source download labels, TMet Recordings was launched in December 2003 and is based in Waitakere Eco-City. Tracks are available to buy online at www.tmet.co.nz as the highest quality 320kb MP3s, at NZ$3 (US $1.99) a download. TMet sign their artists on a tack by track, non exclusive basis and with 3 clauses probably have the shortest recording contract in the world.
As MsBehaviour says, “we’re musos and we wrote a contract for musos. This is a new millennium and we’re going to do things our own way. Artists can self publish without the need for the majors, and through the TMet Collective we can help get them noticed.”
TMet pay 50% of the profits from sales direct to their artists. No DRM, No rip-off – just great Kiwi music. So if you’re into dance or electronica check out the latest offerings from New Zealand at TMet Recording’s New Releases page: http://shop.tmet.net/products_new.php
