“Be A Gem – and Buy One!!” says Three Kings Rotary for Auckland’s First Jewellery Charity Auction
The Rotary Club of Three Kings aims to put rings on the fingers of Aucklanders, so that more ‘oximeters’ can be clipped
onto the fingers of sick kids and adults.
The Club, in Association with The Peter Minturn Goldsmith School, is hosting the First, Great Jewellery Charity Auction
of Auckland on Sunday 5 December 2004 at Ferndale House, Mt Albert.
In all, the Club will offer 200 lots of jewellery (rings, gems, necklaces, bracelets etc), valued from $20 to $20,000,
to buy “oximeters”. Oximeters are medical devices that measure oxygen saturation in blood of children and adults. Each
oximeter costs around $1600 and those purchased by Three Kings Rotary will be donated to the Auckland health community.
When used, oximeters are portable and painless. They are simply clipped on and a reading is taken.
“We’re hoping Aucklanders will spend up large to help sick kids and adults,” says Club President Neil Hingston. “There
will be some wonderful jewellery available including high value, high quality jewellery with precious stones, and some
that is more modestly priced.”
This is the first time, to the Club’s knowledge, that a Charity Auction has been created around jewellery. Security will
be tight around the venue, which will be open from 2.30pm for viewing, followed by the auction at 3.30pm. The pieces are
on view on the website http://www.rotaryclubofthreekings.org.nz.
“Celebrated Auckland jewellers like the legendary Peter Minturn have been generous in supporting this auction,” says
Neil. “They’ve furnished us with some spectacular pieces already.”
Entry to the auction will be $10 per head, with a catalogue and light refreshments included.
