Opera Brings Wow To Fundraiser Event
Champagne, diamonds, cruise holidays, luxury cars, opera - and of course, the ultimate element, World of WearableArt.
What more could you want in a glamorous evening?
Maggie Barry, MC for The NBR New Zealand Opera's fundraising auction and gala dinner this Saturday in Wellington, with
100 champagne glasses and the $5,000 gem.
The NBR New Zealand Opera takes opera to another level this weekend by joining with WOW to bring a "taste" of the
Montana World of WearableArt Awards to Wellington. WOW is supporting the entertainment segment of the opera company's
biennial black-tie gala dinner and fundraising auction at Wellington's Town Hall, which hopes to raise over $100,000 to
assist with the continued presentation of opera in New Zealand.
The biennial Wellington fundraising event traditionally showcases opera alongside a treasury of donated luxury goods
including cars, international travel packages, boutique resort holidays, fine wine and dining, and designer clothing.
"The combination of WOW and Opera looks set to give guests a unique and exciting entertainment experience and is simply
irresistible!" says Alex Reedijk, General Director of The NBR New Zealand Opera.
"There is certainly no other venue long enough to host some of the spectacular entertainment we have planned. Nor is
there anywhere quite so acoustically well placed to showcase our marvellous Chapman Tripp Opera Chorus and special opera
singing guests who will perform a range of music accompanied by a glittering display from WOW. Together with array of
auction lots and the lively bidding we're expecting, it's shaping up to be a rousing night out."
This year's 300 guests can bid for a vast array of lots across silent and live auctions, put under the hammer by a
Bayleys Real Estate Auctioneer.
Among the spoils - a 12-night Alaskan cruise valued at $20,000; an exclusive package to Palazzo Versace on the Gold
Coast; and a six-month lease of a brand new Alfa Romeo 147 Lusso from Tory Continental. Other items include a year's
supply of CocaCola, a beauty treatment make-over, an array of theatre, opera and WOW ticket packages, and designer
clothing from Wellington designer Andrea Moore and Working Style.
Guests will also have a chance to win a $5,000 diamond courtesy of The Village Goldsmith, from among 100 numbered
champagne glasses filled with Veuve Clicquot to be sold at the start of the evening.
The event's MC, well-known personality Maggie Barry, took time out this week to get acquainted with the auction goods on
offer before the big night, and decided that for her, diamonds really are a girl's best friend!
