A little more about the video if you wanna know!
Autozamm
Down On Me Video
Concept: The band had no idea what the concept for this video was:
Sam Buys - Director
Us Buys Boys are bored of average fodder videos. we always try something different. With autozamm we wanted to make a video that was a mixture of a doco, reality tv, performance video, multi camera with heavy lashings of rock and roll.
We decided to convince the guys to agree to a make a video with us without knowing what it was actually about. Which proved easier than i thought, ha.
Several weeks of planning, favours pulled all over town, talented film makers on board.
The result speaks fo itself.
Mike Autozamm:
I went to Sam and basically said we don’t have a lot of cash but really want to make a video for our next single ‘Down on Me’
He was into it, which for us at the time was great until he pulled out the "I’ll do it but can’t tell you what the concept is, you will just have to trust me" Trust…
All we knew was that there were gonna be dancing girls and we only got to play the song once through.
The song was played at 50% on the day so we had to learn it at half speed for the shoot.
1 week before the shoot we all had no idea what was going on, Sam didn’t even tell the crew he had roped in what the video concept was until the day.
Things we all thought may happen on the day:
*Die, snuff video styles cool idea but no more band and that would be shit.
*Sexy women all going down on us ‘Down On Me’ being song title so it made perfectly good sense.
*As we wearing overalls getting covered in shit wasn’t out of the question
*Dancing girls were actually all going to be very gay dancing men trying to have a Zamm Sandwich
The day of the shoot: Saturday October 16th 2004
5.30pm: Autozamm turns up at Propeller in Wellington
5.45pm: 3 dozen beers presented for the band to drink, sweet.
6.30pm: Wardrobe turns up. A good man called Aaron comes in with overalls and t-shirts and black sacks to cover our faces.
7.30pm: Behind the scenes crew turns up to film the making of and the general mayhem that was about to take place.
8.00pm: Autozamm taken downstairs put into the back of a van masks put on and taking to a location to wait for Sam’s phone call.
8.30pm: Sam calls we start driving again. Behind scenes crew stop van pretend to get out and drive us round in circles saying nothing as we all start to freak out as its complete blackness all around. Barstards!
8.45pm: Get to location van door opens each of us given a dancing girl to lead us down a path into school swimming pool. Again we can’t see a thing and all we can here is people talking and laughing at us.
9.00pm: Each band member is given their instruments. DOP calls speed, Sam calls action ‘Down On Me’ starts and all our masks are removed. From there we shoot the video and it’s all over in 3.30mins.
As for the final result of the video we don’t know what it will look like yet as it all happened so quickly. So come join us for the release gig where the video will be seen by everyone for the first time including Autozamm on Tuesday 26th October at Indigo Bar Wellington 10pm.
All we can say is that there was one 35mm film camera
10 DV cameras and operators
15 dancing girls
2 drill sergeants yelling at us "You can’t f**king sing you pussy’ and "Shut up you cock suckers"
Dirty girl’s whispering in our ears "You make me so wet" and "Move that guitar and f**k me"
Some dude with a water cannon and 2000 litres of water aimed at Mike’s head
