October 2004 – NZ Music In Australia
It’s great to know that not only can you see, buy, and listen to New Zealand music in Australia, but that people
actually do!
First up this month, big congratulations are due to Scribe, Dirty Records, and FMR. Scribe’s single ‘Not Many/Stand Up’
has reached Gold status in Australia, selling over 35,000 units, and his debut album ‘The Crusader’ is nipping at the
heels of Gold itself, with only 5,000 copies needing to be sold to reach this award. Expect this to happen sooner rather
than later – next single ‘Dreaming’ has made a big dent at radio, being the ninth most-added song in the week it was
released to the airwaves, and the third most-added in the dance/pop category.
Great chart action for Evermore, too. Their single ‘It’s Too Late’ has reached number 16 in the national sales chart,
and has now spent 12 weeks in the airplay charts, currently sitting at number 33. The band’s debut album ‘Dreams’ has
spent the three weeks since release in the Top 50. Evermore support Little Birdy on their upcoming Australian tour later
this month.
betchadupa’s ‘Who’s Coming Through The Window’ video is screening on Channel 10’s Video Hits and Video Hits Uncut. The
band headline Adelaide and Melbourne shows over the next couple of days (with Degrees K among the supports), and have a
tour to look forward to with The Killers, who betchadupa will support on their five Aussie shows in December.
The Finn Brothers’ Australian shows are just around the corner, with Aussie sensation Missy Higgins in support. Their
single ‘Won’t Give In’ is still performing strongly at radio and music TV after some 11 weeks.
The Datsuns’ single ‘Girl’s Best Friend’ has been added strongly at alternative radio and the accompanying video is
screening on Rage
Mareko’s ‘Stop Drop ‘N’ Roll’ video is airing on Rage, and his ‘White Sunday’ album was released at the beginning of
this month, through Inertia.
Dei Hamo’s Australian campaign is beginning to get underway, with his ‘We Gon’ Ride’ single getting its first national
airplay ahead of a November 22nd retail release. He has also scored the coveted support slot on D12’s upcoming three
show tour.
Pan Am’s ‘Interstate Boy’ video is screening on Rage and is picking up some airplay.
Katchafire played to a full house at The Prince of Wales in Melbourne and are going back to play two shows in Sydney and
two in Brisbane at the end of the month.
‘Bondi Calling Volume 2’ has just been released through Australian label Vitamin Records and it includes tracks from
kiwi artists Twinset feat. Barnaby Weir and one million dollars.
Baitercell and Timmy Schumacher have just returned from an Australian tour and Pitch Black head across the ditch at the
end of November to introduce our trans-Tasman cousins to their new album ‘From Ape To Angel’, which has just been
released here on Kog.
