NZ blast through to semi’s at Indoor Cricket World Cup
The round robin is over at the Indoor Cricket World Cup 2004 at Colombo, Sri Lanka and the New Zealand Men’s Indoor Cricket team have qualified in second place behind Australia. The Women’s team came in at third place, also getting through to the semi-finals.
Despite a shaky start, losing their first two games, the men’s team won all of their remaining round-robin matches to qualify ahead of host team Sri Lanka.
The men’s team meet Australia in semi-final A, the loser of which then plays the winner of Sri Lanka vs. South Africa (semi-final B) for a place in the final.
The women’s team meet host team Sri Lanka in a must-win game in order to proceed to the final.
Both finals will be played on Saturday 16th October. The men’s final commences at 5.30pm New Zealand time, the women’s final at 10.30pm New Zealand time.
Men’s team Captain Graham Murray said “I’m delighted we have got to the semi’s. We have a pretty young team, but full of passion and enthusiasm and to end the round robin in second place is testament to that. We’re expecting a hard game against Australia tonight, but are focused on the challenge and ready for anything.”
