Sheeps Bums! The do gooder Yanks have got it wrong
This whole wool ban thing has Paddy Sweeney from the Good Bastards movement a bit perplexed.
Good Bastards has a huge following in the rural sector of both Australia and New Zealand
“Here is this mob of yanky do gooders playing busy body’s in the name of the sheep’s bum. They are claiming that the
practice of “mulesing” is cruel to sheep. What is painfully obvious is they have never seen first hand the flyblown
backside of a Merino Sheep and the strife and pain that causes to the poor bloody sheep. ” Sweeney said today.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta) – the organisation which claims the credit for crippling the fur
trade in the 1990s – is targeting Australian merino wool, and says it is also concerned about practices used in New
Zealand.
“It’s bloody disgusting, here we have a bunch of no hoping yanks wanting to inflict yet another imposition on the rest
of the world. Why haven’t they turn their irrational attention to saving some of the 14 000 people that have been
murdered so far in Iraq in the name of Weapons of Mass Deception, or the 300 000 and rising that are dying in Sudan.”
Sweeney said.
Peta is claiming a big breakthrough after Abercrombie & Fitch, one of America's best known fashion retailers, bowed to pressure and dropped Australian merino.
Maybe we could retaliate and ban their crap television shows that drive people to the pub in disgust, although that’s
not altogether a bad thing said Sweeney the marketer of Good Bastards Beer.
The wider aim of Peta – which has 850,000 members worldwide, and claims to be the biggest organisation of its kind – was
to get people to say no to wool. "We want to encourage consumers to avoid wool entirely. It's the 21st century – there's
no reason for humans to wear leather or fur or wool.
"There's much kinder alternatives like cotton or polyester or nylon," he said.
Peta was talking to another two dozen large American retailers about banning Australian merino products, and would look
at campaigns against them if they continued to sell the product, Rice said.
Sweeney believes the current attack from Peta should serve as a motivating force to leverage off and drive sales
activity in the US and protect the Australian and New Zealand economys.
“Turn the negative into a positive and not sit on our bloody hands and let these do gooders impact into one of the
country’s prime financial bases .” Sweeney said.
“We let these bastards shut down the wool industry, then what’s next? Will they be running around and saying it’s cruel
to milk a cow, have bacon and eggs for breakfast or eat one of their shitty hamburgers?”
“No one in their right mind wants to support cruelty to animals. The procedure of mulesing is a process that prevents a
shocking thing happening to sheep.”
“What these wankers are doing is using their spin doctors to gain publicity for their organisation. If this is the worst
thing that is happening to animals today there is buggar all we have to worry about.” He said.
