V Movie Marathon
HOLLYWOOD INVADES THE HOLLYWOOD
This year the annual celebration of movie madness known as the V Movie Marathon has been super-sized to become a twenty-four hour long endurance test. Movie mad attendees will dress up in pyjamas, eat junk food, drink copious amounts of V to keep awake and witness an onslaught of movie nirvana.
This year the Marathon has had a face-lift and will be presenting some New Zealand premieres of new Hollywood films alongside the usual cheesy B-Movies. The line-up is top secret but those in the know are very excited by what has been locked down.
Organiser Ant Timpson reveals "the soul of the marathon will always be the bMovie thrills and spills. However, the inclusion of some great new premieres will make the twenty-four hour event a lot smoother ride. There are only so many Bigfoot movies someone can watch in a row. It's based on a model that friends run in Austin, Texas called ButtNumb-A-Thon, the major difference being we won't have Mel Gibson turning up to intro a film!"
The Auckland event is being held at the legendary Jan Grefstad's Hollywood Cinema in Avondale. Previous years have been held at the glorious Civic. Timpson explains the change of venue; "getting a booking in the Civic is harder than getting a box-cutter on a flight to Invercargill and actually it's all worked out for the best. The Hollywood has oodles of atmosphere and history and where else can people bring their own couches, sofas and beanbags along to sit on?".
It all goes down in Auckland - Oct 30-31 at the Hollywood Cinema and in Wellington on Nov 6-7 at the Paramount.
Tickets for Auckland are available from all NZ Post Shops and Red Tickets and for Wellington from the Paramount.
