Golden Shine For Wellington’s Longest Lunch
The goal of setting a New Zealand record for the longest lunch has taken on a golden shine with news that New Zealand’s gold medal winning rowers the Evers-Swindell twins are joining the challenge.
The Telecom-sponsored Evers-Swindell sisters will swap rowing oars for fine cutlery on Friday 8 October to dine out on the Westpac Stadium pitch at Wellington’s Longest Lunch.
Served up by the Wellington City Mission and Telecom, the Longest Lunch will qualify as New Zealand’s longest lunch if just over 700 people attend on the day.
Members of the public can win seats to sit with Caroline and Georgina for the lunch by entering the Telecom Celebrity draw on More FM’s breakfast show from Monday 27 September to Friday 1 October.
Fr Des Britten said having both Georgina and Caroline Evers-Swindell’s attendance was a great boost for the City Mission.
“What better way to acknowledge the girls’ recent achievement than to join them at a lunchtime banquet and to know that you’ll be supporting your fellow Wellingtonians at the same time.
“For the cost of a table at the Longest Lunch you could be helping us to feed eighty hungry mouths for a week or support an elderly person in their own home for 10 months,” he said.
The Wellington City Mission is marking a century of helping transform the lives of Wellingtonians this year. The extent of its work is such that the City Mission now requires $2.2 million in funding each year.
Tables of 10 for the Longest Lunch can be booked at www.avenues.co.nz/longestlunch or by calling (04) 4738039.
