Leading NZ artist showing at special Wellington exhibition
The exhibition which runs until September 25 shows Goodwin’s study of the New Zealand sky.
``David is regarded as one of the up and coming talented artists in New Zealand today. His works are becoming excellent
art investments,’’ Ferner Galleries managing director Helene Phillips said.
“Collectors are keen to support emerging artists as artworks by more senior artists are now priced out of reach.
``Dave Goodwin’s art is modestly priced and should show good returns for art buyers looking to invest funds in a
maturing market,’’ Ms Phillips said.
``The puffy cumulus clouds either dictate the canvas, or alternatively cling to the edges as if caught in a gust and
blown from being the central subject. His skies are resonantly New Zealand in palette.’’
Goodwin was born in Manurewa in 1960. Despite his love of art, he studied geology at university until a car accident
forced him to give up his studies.
His paintings are a popular success with local and international collectors. His art is strongly influenced by New
Zealand regionalist painters Colin McCahon, Rita Angus and Michael Smither.
His style is characterised by sharp contrasts of light and dark and undulating stylised landforms often suggestive of
anatomical shapes. Goodwin’s latest works depict boulders on the shore of the Firth of Thames near where the artist
lives.
