Golden Carter gleams in new Hyundai … and one for his wife
When gold medallist Hamish Carter goes training from now on, he’ll go in a vehicle that runs as hard as he does: a Hyundai Terracan.
Carter, 33-year-old hero of the Athens Olympics, was surprised to be handed the keys to his new SUV live on Hyundai Sports Café this week.
This was no set-up, Carter genuinely knew nothing about it until he joined Ric and the crew on the popular TV show.
“Hamish is one of New Zealand’s best-performing sportspeople, so we decided it’s appropriate he be in one of the best vehicles of its kind,” commented the Sales and Marketing Manager of Hyundai Automotive New Zealand, Howard Spencer.
“When we heard he was coming on the show, we had a quiet chat with his manager … and the nation learned about his new Terracan at the same time Hamish did.
“Since then we’ve had messages coming in from fans around the country applauding the move, which is nice for Hamish and Hyundai.”
More good news was to follow for family man Carter.
Hyundai added a second SUV, for Hamish’s wife Marisa. She will be driving a mid-sized Hyundai Santa Fe.
Both Hyundai vehicles will be just the ticket for transporting the couple’s two children, Austin and Phoebe.
And of course the Auckland-based professional triathlete and ironman will use the powerful and roomy Terracan as he builds up for a hectic 2005 season.
Carter will contest events such as Escape from Alcatraz in San Francisco in June plus October’s ITU World Championships, Honolulu and the XTERRA World Championships on Maui.
“I’ve been looking for a quality, roomy vehicle to carry all four of us plus my training gear when we go away,” commented Hamish on receiving the Terracan. “And Marisa was keen on a mid-size vehicle for her and the children around town.
“In Hyundai, we found the perfect answer,” he added. “I’m stoked, really rapt … it’s such a great gesture from Hyundai for me and my family.”
Hyundai is the popular sponsor of the Sports Café show as well as sports stars Barbara Kendall and Nathan Astle. At world level Hyundai was a sponsor of the Athens Olympics.
