South Island Snowboard Champs
Snowboarders of all ages from throughout the New Zealand are heading to Cardrona Alpine Resort next weekend (27-29 August) for the New Zealand Snowboard Association (NZSBA) South Island Championships, an important qualifier for the Nationals later in the season.
Youth, junior, open and masters categories will compete in the giant slalom, boarder-x, half pipe and slopestyle over three days.
NZSBA executive director, Graham Dunbar, expects the event to feature a good representation of riders from throughout the country.
“There are a lot of riders from the North Island coming down hoping to qualify for the Nationals after the North Island Champs were cancelled due to bad weather. There are also a number of Australian teams training here in NZ at the moment and they’ll be using the event as good competition practice – it could be quite an Aussie/Kiwi battle!”
Competition kicks off on 27 August with the GS and boarder-x, followed by action in the halfpipe on 28th and finishing with the slopestyle on the 29th.
