Westfield Style Pasifika Spectacular And Fashion Award To Weave Magic
Westfield Style Pasifika Spectacular brings fashion and entertainment together in an internationally unique way combining a mixture of fashion, music and dance tinged with a modern taste of the South Pacific. The show and Fashion Award will be on stage at the Auckland Town Hall on 2nd and 3rd of September 2004. The Fashion Award will be presented on Friday the 3rd.
Incorporating New Zealand's premiere fashion award, Westfield Style Pasifika is an extraordinary celebration of the talent and cultures that establish our place in the world. It has been weaving magic for over 10 years and is a New Zealand entertainment icon.
This year 80 finalists, have been chosen for the 10 fashion award categories. The finalists have been selected from the hundreds of entries from throughout New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific.
The fashion will uniquely showcased accompanied by music, dance and culture creating an extraordinary melting pot that makes Westfield Style Pasifika unique in the world.
Artists who will be performing over the two nights include amongst many others: D1 Entertainment, a Hip Hop group with their debut album 'Koko Luv' soon to be release; Sara-Jane Auva'a, who has recently recorded an album in Samoa and New Zealand which is a blend of traditional pacific music with contemporary styles and has won international acclaim in all facets from cultural to jazz performances; Tutevera Wichman-Evans from Oyster Entertainment, Tutevera has been in the NZ music scene for 12 years and sings in a variety of languages including Maori, French, Spanish and English; the Auckland Pacific Gospel Choir, a young, modern and exciting choir with a very unique sound of the Pacific; and Spacifix, winners of the 2003 Coke Smokefree Pacific Beats Competition - 4 vocalists and 5 musicians - they are a hip hop and RnB group not to be missed.
Judges for the Award are some of New Zealand's leading fashion designers : Liz Findlay from Zambesi; Liz Mitchell ; Frances Hooper from World; internationally acclaimed makeup and body artist Joanne Gair; Marilyn Kohlase from Creative New Zealand and Paul Blomfield from New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
Categories in the Westfield Style Pasifika Fashion Award are Three Piece Collection; Urban Street Wear; Men's Wear; Evening Wear; Bridal Wear; Parent and Child; Traditionally Inspired; Asia Pasifika, Pasifika Hero and Painted Body Art.
Commenting on the entries the Director of Westfield Style Pasifika, Stan Wolfgramm said: "The quality of the entries in this year in the fashion award were of a particularly high standard and remarkable diversity and created a some interesting decisions for the judges and remarkable outcomes which will be revealed on the night and very much reflect our place in the Pacific."
The show will be filmed live over two nights for a nationwide television special.
