Challenging Influences: a photographer's coming of age in the 1960s A Gallery talk about the Wellington photography scene of the 1960s in which Ans Westra first made her mark, by John B. Turner, senior lecturer in photography, University of Auckland. Sunday 15 August, National Library Gallery, 1.30pm

DUTCH TREAT A series of seminars related to the work of Ans Westra, hosted by the Stout Research Centre and the National Library Gallery.
In Camera Luit Bieringa, exhibition organiser of Handboek: Ans Westra Photographs talks about the autobiographical context to the photographer’s work. Wednesday 1 September, 12 Waiteata Road, 4.10-5.30pm
Te Ao Hou Cultural intersections between Dutch and Mäori in Aotearoa – a panel discussion with Hank Schouten, author of Tasman’s Legacy: the New Zealand-Dutch connection, art historian Damian Skinner, and Jonathan Mane-Wheoki (Ngâ Puhi), director art and visual culture, Te Papa. Camera Lucida Representing other cultures in word and image – a panel discussion with Brigitte Bonisch-Brednich, senior lecturer, School of Social and Cultural Studies, Victoria University, Luit Bieringa, curator of Handboek: Ans Westra Photographs, and Neil Pardington (Kai Tahu, Kâti Mamoe, Käti Waewae), artist, filmmaker and designer. Documentary/Post Documentary Christina Barton, senior lecturer in art history at Victoria University, and Lawrence McDonald, lecturer in visual art at Weltec and editor of Handboek, discuss a range of issues relating to Ans Westra’s work as a documentary photographer in light of recent developments in photographic practice.
