Cheapskates Otago/Southland Inter-Secondary School Snowboard Champs
Twenty-seven teams from 12 schools from throughout the region competed in the Cheapskates Otago/Southland Inter-Secondary Schools Championships at Cardrona Alpine Resort today.
Once again there was a fiercely fought contest between old rivals Mount Aspiring College and Wakatipu High School in the boys. However, in the girls’ competition St Hilda’s High School from Dunedin took first place, breaking the Queenstown/Wanaka reign for the first time in seven years.
Whitney Dagg and Georgina Allen took first and second place respectively in the half pipe and fourth and fifth in the boarder-x. Third team member Kate Winikeri was also fifth and Fiona Albert seventh. Kate and Fiona’s fourth and sixth placings in the dual slalom also helped contribute to their team’s success.
Mount Aspiring College from Wanaka won the mixed team event with a first placing in the boarder-x from Sarah Smith and a second in the half pipe by Hayley Scurr allowing them to retain the trophy. Gore High school took second overall and the second Mount Aspiring College team took third.
Mount Aspiring College also won the boys’ competition. Connor Faircloth Harding took second place in the halfpipe while team-mates Tom Dozell, William Harris and Callum Scurr placed highly in the boarder-x and slalom. Wakatipu High School won second overall with Cromwell College coming in third.
