LOMU DONOR IDENTIFIED
It was clearly stated in a statement last week that it was the wish of the donor and Jonah that the donor remain unidentified - a common procedure in live donor transplants.
Unfortunately, persistence from a reporter at the Dominon Post to both the donor and the Auckland District Health Board has resulted in the donor’s identity reluctantly being disclosed. He is Grant Kereama.
The relationship between Jonah and Grant began several years ago. Grant describes the decision to donate his kidney as “simple”.
“I had two kidneys and I am in great health. Jonah was not well and was in need of one. It was very simple for me.”
Grant is better known for his role as radio presenter for 91ZM where he has been with the Morning Crew for over 10 years. He is married to fellow Morning Crew presenter Pauline Gillespie.
“We are disappointed that this has become public,” said Grant today. “It’s a very private pact between Jonah and I. I don’t think it is for others to judge or comment on.”
“Jonah has been through an enormous ordeal and we just want him to be able to recuperate quietly and out of the public eye.”
Neither Jonah nor Grant will be giving interviews while they recuperate. It is requested that the media respect their right to privacy at this time.
