School Holiday Programme
18 September – 3 October
Join us these school holidays for our fun-packed, fashion-flavoured programme of activities and workshops.
Storytelling Join storyteller extraordinaire Jo Lees as she tells the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes, in Treasures and Tales every Monday and Wednesday of the holidays at 11am and 2pm.
Fashion Trail An exciting educational trail leading kids on a discovery search around the Museum. Answer questions relating to the exhibitions and have fun with our activities, including dress-ups and flip fashion!
Workshops Bookings essential – call 09 306 7077. All workshops cost $6 ($5 for Dinomites). Meet in the foyer.
Prince and Princess Workshops Tuesday 21 September & Sunday 26 September: 10.30am–12noon Decorate your own personal crown, choose your royal costume, walk down the red carpet and become a Prince or Princess! Meet an Indian Prince! (male model and author Colin Mathura-Jeffree). Suitable for 5 – 8 years. Please wear tight-fitting clothes for underneath dress-ups.
Dress the Designers – with WORLD designer Denise L’Estrange-Corbet Thursday 23 September: 10.30am– 2noon Decorate and dress cut-out paper dolls featuring WORLD designers Denise L’Estrange-Corbet and Francis Hooper. With the expert creative assistance of Denise L’Estrange-Corbet. Suitable for 5 – 9 years.
Origami Fashion – with origami master Johnathan Baxter Friday 24 September: 1.30pm–3pm Discover the world of origami and choose your own fashion origami piece to create, from an elegant selection intricately designed by artist Jonathan Baxter. Suitable for 7 – 12 years.
Skin, Scales, Fur and Feathers Sunday 26 September: 1.30pm–3pm & Tuesday 28 September 10.30am–12noon Inspired by the creative use of exotic materials by WORLD designers, this workshop looks at how animals wear their “clothes” and how humans have used them for fashion. Design and make your own item of adornment and choose an appropriate outfit to match. Male model and author Colin Mathura-Jeffree has expert advice to help. Suitable for 9 – 12 years. Please wear tight-fitting clothes for underneath dress-ups and bring a floppy disk for your photo if you do not have email.
10-Minute Activities Suitable for all ages. No bookings required; pop into the Discovery Centres every day of the holidays. All activities cost $2 ($1 for Dinomites), and run from 10am – 12 noon and 1.30pm – 3pm.

Unseen Worlds Exhibition While you’re here, don’t miss the chance to check out the Unseen Worlds exhibition, check out the massive squirming maggots, the enormous crawling ants, explore our special lab space and take part in the larger than life Museum trail!
