Street Race Supporters Club Petition Goes Electronic
The Auckland Street Race Supporters Club today launched a website based petition and within hours hundreds of responses had flooded in.
Street race support is expected to build to thousands of names and addresses as the on-line marketing campaign picks up momentum over the next few days.
An organiser of the petition, Rob Lynch said the names and addresses would be presented to Transit New Zealand and the North Shore Mayor George Wood, who now stood out as the major anti-street race opponents.
We’ll also be seeking a meeting with the Labour Party President and Transit board member Mike Williams to show him the overwhelming support for this event.
It’s just staggering how out of touch the North Shore Mayor and council are in continuing their opposition to the event,” Mr Lynch said. “And Transit should be looking for solutions rather than trying to find ways to stop the event.
The electronic petition is being backed up by a good old-fashioned street campaign with paper based posters and freepost support forms in Takapuna, Devonport, Viaduct Harbour, Ponsonby and Auckland CBD over the weekend and early next week.
“We did a trial run in Takapuna’s main street last week and ran out of petition forms,” Mr Lynch said. “We got very positive responses from older people, the young, males and females. It’s a lot of fun when you have such wholehearted public support from so many who obviously want the event to happen.”
